AWE are currently recruiting for a Laboratory Technician to join the Technical Services Team. The team provides technical expertise across a variety of areas at AWE to deliver mechanical/thermal analysis, materials certification, laboratory characterisation and manufacture of samples/components.

Within this role you will have the opportunity to apply specialised expertise, experience and knowledge to directly support the ongoing work of AWE's critical mission.



Location - Reading area

Package - £25,600 - £40,000 dependent on experience

Key accountabilities & responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

· Assist with the design of technical/experimental programmes to deliver the requirements of our current programme

· To ensure that technical objectives are performed appropriately at a local team level

· Provision of experimental/ technical capabilities assigned to their responsibility (e.g. experimentation, trials, maintenance, calibration and supporting documentation)

· To support the engagement with internal stakeholders (e.g. technical community, facility, ESH, etc.) to ensure experimental/ technical capabilities are available to meet team delivery targets

· Promote Right First-Time quality culture

· Undertake work in compliance with Company processes, standards, and procedures

· Maintain and develop appropriate outreach activities with UK industry and academia to enhance the Company's academic and technical reputation and maintain partnerships to enable programme delivery where such necessary capabilities exist outside the Company



Candidates will be expected to have some qualifications and or equivalent level of knowledge in a STEM subject area including experience working in a technical or laboratory environment. Basic knowledge of the characterisation, processing or handling of materials, chemicals or the design, operation and maintenance of scientific equipment will be essential.

Good decision making and problem-solving abilities are also required.



Candidates must be willing and able to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role and be willing and able to work in designated areas within a regulatory environment.
