D. E. Shaw Research is seeking postdoctoral fellows of exceptional ability to join our New York–based team.  This is a unique opportunity to develop and work with transformative technology in a dynamic, interdisciplinary environment.  Candidates should have expertise in computational biophysics or chemistry, structural biology, drug discovery, or in a relevant area of computer science.

Relevant areas of experience might include direct application of molecular dynamics or other computational methods to drug discovery, investigation of allosteric interactions or other functionally important conformational changes in biological molecules, structure prediction or design for proteins or RNA, study of protein–protein or protein–nucleic acid interactions, or study of fundamental biophysical problems, such as protein and RNA folding. D. E. Shaw Research is an independent research group that is pursuing an ambitious, long-term strategy aimed at fundamentally transforming the process of drug discovery.  We have developed a special-purpose supercomputer, ANTON®, capable of executing molecular dynamics (MD) simulations orders of magnitude faster than was previously possible.  Our current projects include investigations of proteins and other biomedically relevant macromolecules as well as the development of computational chemistry methods to enable more accurate and effective MD simulations.

D. E. Shaw Research is an independent research laboratory that conducts scientific research and technological development in the field of computational biochemistry. Our group focuses on the design of novel algorithms and machine architectures for high-speed molecular dynamics (MD) simulations of proteins and other biological macromolecules, with the ultimate aim of significantly advancing the process of drug discovery. We have designed and developed multiple generations of ANTON®, a massively parallel supercomputer that executes MD simulations orders of magnitude faster than was previously possible. Anton has now simulated the behavior of a number of proteins for periods as long as several milliseconds, revealing biologically and pharmaceutically relevant aspects of protein dynamics.

Members of our group include computational chemists and biologists, computer scientists and applied mathematicians, and computer architects and engineers of all seniority levels, working collaboratively within a tightly coupled interdisciplinary research environment under the leadership of chief scientist Dr. David E. Shaw.
