We are currently supporting a key client of ours who are looking to hire a Chemistry Team Leader. The role will be based at their facility in Northern Ireland.

As the Chemistry Team Leader you will be responsible for leading a team of chemists to deliver all assigned projects to the required quality, quantity and timelines. You will provide technical leadership / oversight on all projects within your team, working closely with colleagues across the department to assist with problem solving. As the Chemistry Team Leader, you will provide line management for team members, including performance management and active support of professional and personal development and will strive to build an engaged and motivated team. You will ensure that all work areas are maintained in a safe and organised state and that improvements to ways of working are identified and implemented.

Your duties as the Chemistry Team Leader will be varied however the key duties and responsibilities are as follows:

1. Technical and Operational - You will lead complex assigned development projects for our clients, ensuring on time, on budget delivery of the required amount of target molecule to the required quality. You will perform and interpret own routine analysis (eg NMR, HPLC, LCMS, KF). Act as support chemist for project in manufacturing plant operations by ensuring clear communication of expectations of the process to operations or plant chemist.

2. Leadership and Management - Ensure that all team members are managed in line with the company's performance management procedures, all team members have a personal development plan and opportunities are provided for staff growth and development. Build a team spirit within your team, striving to build a motivated, engaged and happy workforce. Mentor your team members in good experimental technique and efficient process chemistry workflows. Establish and lead regular team meetings to ensure that any issues are raised and solved collectively, escalating as required.

3. Business improvement - Continuously improve skills and knowledge relevant to role. Identify and implement potential improvements to current ways of working. Identify opportunities to promote the company through publication, seminar presentation and networking. Contribute to the capital equipment planning process.


To be successful in your application to this exciting opportunity as the Chemistry Team Leader we are looking to identify the following on your profile and past history:

1. Relevant BSc, MSc or PhD in a Chemistry focussed discipline. You will require experience of development of synthetic processes and transfer to manufacture, ideally within the pharmaceutical sector. In addition, you will require experience in leading technical aspects of development projects.

2. As you will be managing a small team of chemists, we would expect you to have experience leading and mentoring a team a development chemists.

3. Given the specialist nature of the work, we will be looking to identify someone with prior experience within the pharmaceutical or drug discovery / development sector, ideally with some experience of GMP.
