Overview

The Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) has an exciting opportunity for a User Experience Researcher to join us on a permanent full-time (35-hour week) basis, at our Science Park Cambridge office.

Working closely with our front-end development team, and product management, as User Experience Researcher for the Royal Society of Chemistry, you will drive and nurture user-centered design in an agile software development organisation.

As our User Experience Researcher, you will enable digital product development and improve user experience by coordinating and running user research, design validation, and connecting development teams with user needs. You will ensure that our software products and services are usable and intuitive, and that our designs and systems serve our users, by arranging, running, and analysing user research, working with our insights team to help drive that knowledge out into the organisation.

The Royal Society of Chemistry is the UK’s professional body for chemical scientists and the world’s leading chemistry community and a prestigious not-for-profit publishing and knowledge business, with over 50,000 members advancing excellence in chemistry.

This is an important support role within our technology directorate, who develop and maintain digital products and services, including pubs.rsc.org, our journals publishing platform.

We are looking for:

  • Educated to degree level or with relevant experience. Running and designing usability studies. Experience with a range of user research techniques: usability tests, interviews, A/B testing. Research analysis, qualitative and quantitative. Excellent presentation and communication skills with an ability to interpret and articulate user experience findings persuasively to a wide audience. User empathy and an ability to build rapport. Proven ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, collaborating with a range of teams. Demonstrable knowledge and experience of agile (including methodologies such as scrum or Kanban) and experience working with agile development teams. Experience with video capture and editing. Understanding of established UX patterns and approaches. Ability of using web analytics as a research tool.

Experience in one or more of the following areas would be desirable:

  • Wireframing. Interaction design. Academic publishing or professional membership organisations. Prototyping skills. Technical/UX writing skills.

At the Royal Society of Chemistry, we will support your development and reward your contribution with excellent benefits.

If you are interested in this opportunity, please apply before the end of our closing date.
