Job Details

As the Royal Society of Chemistry’s Education Policy Manager, you will be responsible for the strategic management of the Royal Society of Chemistry's Education policy activities relating to the teaching and learning of chemistry at all levels.

You will manage staff responsible for influencing education policy in the UK and Ireland in relation to the recruitment, retention and professional development of teachers, and to the development and implementation of qualifications and curricula in the chemical sciences, for schools, colleges and universities.

Reporting to the Education and Professional Practice Director, you will work collaboratively as a part of the Directorate, contributing to the long-term vision for the Royal Society of Chemistry. As one of the senior managers within the Directorate, you will work alongside other managers to deliver the Directorate’s goals. You will also be responsible for a budget of £150k-£300k.

You could be based in either our Cambridge or London offices. If based in London, you will need to spend at least one day a week in Cambridge, where most of the team are based. Regular UK and international travel and attendance at some 'out of hours' events will also be required.

We are looking for: 

  • Demonstrable experience of influencing policy in the education sector.
  • Evidence of the ability to communicate confidently and effectively with senior policy makers and to build strong networks.
  • Chemical science qualifications with demonstrable management experience in the education sector.
  • Significant change-management experience with extensive experience in developing team/education strategies and applying them successfully.
  • A strong and enabling management style, able to articulate a clear vision for the Royal Society of Chemistry, utilising the strengths of a diverse team.
  • Experience of managing and delivering complex programmes of activities.
  • Evidence of ability to inspire through communicating complex subjects and issues to different audiences.
  • Proven track record in leading a culture of enterprise and innovation.
  • The commitment and presence to engage with the education sector at all levels, and influence the relevant stakeholders.
  • Highly self-motivated, resourceful and achievement-oriented.
  • Empowering, motivating and supportive manager.
  • Positive, proactive approach to problem solving and decision-making.
