We are currently looking for a Business Development Manager to join a growing photonics and senors company based in the West Lothian area. We can look at offering a degree of flexibility on location for suitable candidates which are not local.

This is a newly created role, which has become available As the Business Development Manager you will be responsible for identifying suitable sources of funding and preparing proposals for funding for product development, as well as supporting the company product sales.

Our client are an established business who have recently secured funding following an acquisition, and they are now looking to build upon this by securing further funding in order to grow their product portfolio. You will have a strong influence over the strategic direction of the company.


Your duties as the Business Development Manager will be varied however the key duties and responsibilities are as follows:

1. Prepare business cases and market analysis for projects involving photonics and sensors.

2. Identify suitable sources of funding (Innovate UK, EU etc.) and prepare proposals for funding.

3. Develop sales leads, analyze application requirements, and pitch suitable products to new customers.

4. Identify key growth areas by type, and implement strategies to accelerate market penetration.

5. Assist in the formation of a standard product range, product configuration and pricing, to achieve
companies target margins.

6. Support the sales team in closing business and the Product Engineering Lead in developing new product
definitions and specifications.

7. Coordinate and promote product lines sales internationally and develop new/alternative sales channels
to support selected markets or specific regions.

8. Provide annual, quarterly, and monthly sales forecasts.

To be successful in your application to this exciting opportunity as the Business Development Manager we are looking to identify the following on your profile and past history:

1. Relevant degree in physics, photonics, electronics, lasers or similar.

2. Several years of experience in sales/business development and a proven track record of selling
photonics-related products/services; knowledge of narrow linewidth diode lasers and quantum applications beneficial. You will be expected to demonstrate a track record of driving the sales of new products and experience managing sales channels.

3. Knowledge of Innovate UK and Horizon 2020 programmes as well as of technology transfer
mechanisms, open innovation, contacts with decision-makers in a variety of sectors highly desirable.

4. Location / travel - this role is based in West Lothian, Scotland. You will be expected to be flexible to travel on occasion across the UK and overseas. We can look at a degree of flexible working for suitable candidates which are not local.
