Purpose of the role:

We have a Senior Scientist I - Wet Chemistry position available ideally suited to candidates with a Chemistry degree and extensive relevant industry laboratory wet chemistry technique experience.

Different work patterns apply (early, standard day and late options)

The position is responsible for providing technical direction and managerial responsibilities by playing a key role in ensuring that projects are performed and supervised effectively. This role focuses on performing bench work and delivering high quality routine and investigative wet chemistry analyses of raw materials and method verification of pharmacopoeia wet chemistry methods.

Data approval, management and training of junior members of the team, client contact, project management and administrative support for laboratory management are also key parts of the role. The role is in the pharmaceutical laboratory with work performed to GMP quality standards.

Main Responsibilities:

Technical and Operational:

  • Provide high quality customer service at all times by ensuring effective organisation of assigned workload, integrity of analytical data generated and timely/accurate provision of results to GMP standards.
  • Provide technical direction and troubleshooting of wet chemistry techniques within the team and provide training and supervision of junior staff in routine activities, methods and interpretation.
  • Accountability for assigned wet chemistry analyses / projects across departments
  • Perform a range of analyses using wet chemistry techniques independently.
  • Perform complex analyses and design or review study protocols.
  • Perform maintenance and troubleshooting of lab equipment.
  • Perform data checking / approval and provide interpretation of results for routine testing and generate certificate analysis or external interpretive reports.
  • Contribute to Mondelez’s Innovation and Research projects, as required.
  • Contribute to RSSL’s Emergency Response Service (ERS), if required.
  • Will be expected to work in different laboratories if the demand is required.

Communication and Influence:

  • Work as part of an efficient analytical team
  • To liase with clients, business development and line management to ensure effective communication of project proposals and results.
  • Participate in client and stake holders meetings as required
  • Deliver presentations to technical stakeholdersand clients as required
  • Manage small projects or defined areas of larger projects
  • Leadership and supervision.

QEHS

  • Work to the highest standards of safety and quality by ensuring that appropriate COSHHs, risk assessments and SOPs are read before starting work.
  • Help maintain a clean, tidy and safe working environment.
  • Understand and work to the requirements of GMP.
  • Ensure all training records are accurate.
  • Know the ethical and legal compliance responsibilities of the position; raise questions and concerns when faced with an ethical or compliance issues; apply integrity in all aspects of professional conduct.
  • These are local roles based at the RSSL site in Reading and it constitutes a support function for the Pharmaceutical laboratory.

Qualifications and Candidate Requirements

  • Educated to Degree or PhD in Chemistry (or equivalent) with extensive practical industry experience in an analytical laboratory utilizing wet chemistry techniques.
  • Scientific understanding and ability to independently conduct chemical analysis.
  • Computer literate (Microsoft Word, Excel).

Experience (Preferred):

  • Previous experience of working in a regulated environment.
  • Good knowledge of laboratory quality and accreditation systems (GMP) and previous experience of working to GMP.
  • Pharmaceutical development awareness.
