We are currently looking for a R&D Manager to join a growing life sciences company based in the Cambridgeshire area. As the R&D Manager you will be responsible for helping lead a team of analytical chemists to develop and improve robust methods, to regulatory guidelines. You will keep up to date with new technologies and requirements of the industry and apply this information to develop methods right through to validation. Working in a small team, your responsibilities will encompass the entire study process from sample preparation all the way through to final report. The position involves hands on laboratory-based work using LC-MS/MS and GC MS/MS instruments analysing samples for pesticide residue analysis.


Your duties as the R&D Manager will be varied however the key duties and responsibilities are as follows:

1. Research and develop new methods - primarily LCMS and GCMS based methods.

2. Validate new and existing methods to ISO 17025 guidelines.

3. Lead, develop and sustainably grow teams in the Laboratory.

4. Be the focal point of the department for knowledge on pesticides and equipment.

5. Provide guidance to the team to ensure that the department can provide expertise in the latest techniques.

6. Ensuring delivery of analysis in accordance with the testing requirements.

7. Carry out routine analysis on a variety of equipment for pesticide residues.


To be successful in your application to this exciting opportunity as the R&D Manager we are looking to identify the following on your profile and past history:

1. At least a BSc in a Chemistry focussed discipline. In addition, you will be expected to have gained relevant experience working in a food related environment on pesticides / residues.

2. Significant experience of chromatography / mass spec: LCMSMS, GC (MS and MSMS), Method development / validation / trouble shooting.

3. Although you will not have any direct line reports, you will be expected to demonstrate leadership capabilities and operational management.
