We are currently looking for a Reporting Chemist to join a leading environmental company based in the Edinburgh area. As the Reporting Chemist you will be responsible for providing specialist report writing and report quality control (QC) and to maintain/develop the reputation of the Environmental department and the quality of the reports produced. You will also provide technical input to support proposal production and preparation of other document deliverables. The role will encompass the ongoing development of the Chemistry services provided to the existing client base, and development of future clients/markets, in conjuction with other Senior/Principal Chemists.


Your duties as the Reporting Chemist will be varied however the key duties and responsibilities are as follows:

1. Primarily responsible for ensuring the overall quality and accuracy of the analytical data reported, through report QC, in liaison with Principal Chemists and the Report Coordinating team;

2. Contribute to the environmental departments reporting requirements to the company's required standards/format, including interpretative text and data analysis;

3. Support chemistry specific training, both in liaison with Senior/Principal Chemists and the Report Coordinating team.

4. Support the preparation of technical and commercial proposals.

5. Support the analysis of samples and interpretation of results using all available analytical systems.

6. Support the routine maintenance and fault rectification of the Chemistry Laboratory analytical equipment.

7. Contribute to the maintenance/improvement of the quality system as relevant to chemistry laboratory and performance audits and scheduled. You will also support the maintenance/development of the Chemistry Laboratories quality systems to meet ISO 17025 requirements in liaison with Senior/Principal Chemists and in conjunction with the Environmental Service Line Manager/Edinburgh General Manager;


To be successful in your application to this exciting opportunity as the Reporting Chemist we are looking to identify the following on your profile and past history:

1. Ideally you will have at least a degree in a Chemistry focussed discipline, however we will also consider those without a background in chemistry who can demonstrate a solid background working in a relevant environment. You will require significant experience working in the environmental or oil and gas sector.

2. Prior industry experience in scientific writing.

3. Specific experience of chemical analysis / interpretation for the oil and gas industry would be desirable.
