JOB PURPOSE

- Provide scientific support to the early stage development of new drug products
- Use a broad range of analytical techniques to understand the chemical and physical properties of drug substances and products
- To assist the team leader in managing projects within the team, to ensure procedures are in place and are being followed correctly

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES

- Knowledge of a variety of chromatographic techniques (e.g. HPLC, UHPLC, GC and MS) sample preparation and selective detection techniques to develop robust analytical methods
- Provides analytical support throughout the various stages of the drug development process development of methodology for testing of in-process samples, API's, excipients, stability samples. Design of experiments, method validation
- May provide supervision to junior team members
- Design and execute development protocols and reports
- Record all experimental outcomes to a high standard
- To interpret chromatograms, to evaluate trending in stability data
- To keep abreast of new technologies and developments in research and advise on how they could be introduced into the department
- Up to date knowledge of regulatory guidelines and USP/EP chapters
- Where applicable ensure laboratory equipment is calibrated and serviced in accordance with company protocols prior to use
- Maintain all areas of the laboratory in clean and tidy state
- To ensure recent versions of test methods and SOPs have been read and training record is kept up to date
- The job holder is responsible for maintaining cGMP and H&S knowledge applicable to the job
- To promote effective team working
- Deliver tasks to deadlines

KEY ATTRIBUTES - ESSENTIAL

Knowledge:

- Higher level scientific based degree and at least 3 years relevant experience within the pharmaceutical industry

Experience:

- Background working in a pharmaceutical laboratory based role with broad experience running and developing chromatographic methods for the analysis of intermediates, APIs &/or formulations
- Experience with the use of a variety of analytical techniques, including use of various detection methods
- Experience with chromatographic data software e.g. Empower, Masslynx,

Skills:

- Working knowledge of Outlook, Word and Excel
- A high standard of numeracy skills
- Motivation to investigate and solve problems
- Ability to convey technical information in the form of a written report or presentation
- Excellent attention to detail to be able to record and interpret data accurately
