Associate Professorship (or Professorship) of Theoretical Organic Chemistry

Grade 30S: Combined University and College salary from £46,336 to £62,219 p.a. plus benefits

Applications are invited for the post of Associate Professor (or Professor) of Theoretical Organic Chemistry in the Department of Chemistry (Central Oxford). The successful candidate will also be appointed to a Tutorial Fellowship at Hertford College under arrangements described in the Job Description and Person Specification. The appointment will be initially for five years at which point, upon completion of a successful review, the post-holder will be eligible for reappointment to the retiring age.

We wish to appoint a candidate whose research interests involve applying advanced modelling and computational methods to understanding organic reactions (mechanism and stereocontrol) and/or use of computational methods in planning synthesis.

The successful candidate will hold a doctorate in organic chemistry or a related field, and have a proven track record of high-quality research and publication at an internationally excellent standard, along with evidence of imaginative research plans and the potential to lead and manage new research initiatives. The post-holder will be required to engage in original research within the field of applying computational methods in planning synthetic chemistry routes; to collaborate with existing staff; to secure research funding, and to carry out teaching, administration, and demonstrating at undergraduate and graduate level.  The successful candidate will also teach undergraduates at Hertford College, as well as participating in the administration of the subject and in the wider life of the College.

Additional benefits, include college housing allowance (currently £9,437 p.a.) or, alternatively, free college accommodation (subject to availability).  The College also offers access to a shared equity scheme to assist with house purchase; other allowances include an entertainment allowance of £273 p.a.; free meals entitlement when the kitchens are open; computer allowance up to £593 p.a. and research expenses up to £1,558 p.a.

An allowance of £2,700 p.a. would be payable upon award of Full Professor title.

The post will be based in the Department of Chemistry, Mansfield Road, Oxford, OX1 3TA and Hertford College, Catte Street, Oxford, OX1 3BW.
