Senior Scientist - Dynamic Material Response

Location - Reading area

We are looking to recruit a Senior Scientist as a member of the Dynamic Material Response team to conduct fundamental shock physics experiments in our Materials Physics Group and Hydrodynamics Technology Centre. This includes experiments using plate impact methods on a range of large bore gas launchers, and the use of an advanced suite of diagnostics such as optical velocimetry and high resolution pyrometry. You will have the opportunity to work and collaborate with Universities in the UK, and be encouraged to disseminate your results internationally through conference attendance and journal publications.

We are particularly interested in hearing from candidates with extensive hands on experience working with gas and/or propellant launchers, establishing new facilities and research capability, fielding of plate impact techniques, and assembly of laser-based optical diagnostic systems such as heterodyne velocimetry.

To be considered for the role, you must have a Doctorate level degree in physics or equivalent science based experience, and experience working at post-doctoral level within a University or equivalent industry experience in a research environment.

Candidates must be willing to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role.
