Purpose of role:
Would you like to use your skills to play a key role in the modelling and assessment of a wide range of challenging materials such as organics, inorganics, actinides or biological materials? If so, the Modelling Team have a range of exciting opportunities available in computational chemistry for experienced hires.
Applying your computational chemistry expertise, you will fundamentally improve the understanding of materials and their chemistries. This role will entail assessing the processes that occur within materials through the use of materials models, developing new materials models and methodologies, and reporting/presenting results to internal and external customers. These models will ultimately be extended to include the broader materials science domain.
We are particularly interested in hearing from candidates with experience or knowledge in the field of computational chemistry, especially in the application of ab initio techniques such as density functional theory and atomistic simulation techniques who are looking to further their career.
In addition to the above, we would also expect you to be able to demonstrate the following:
- Degree level knowledge of a scientific discipline or equivalent science based experience
- Strong communication skills, verbal and written
- An ability to construct materials models of representative systems
- Knowledge of materials science
- Experience of running materials modelling codes (e.g. GAUSSIAN, VASP, DL_POLY)
- Experience in any of: FORTRAN, C++
Candidates must be willing and able to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role.
