An fantastic opportunity has become available for a Upstream Process Development Scientist to join an exciting and expanding Biotechnology company based in the Oxfordshire area. As the Upstream Process Development Scientist you will be responsible for a range of internal platform development and commercial projects, focusing on establishing process development capabilities for the production of both therapeutic proteins and viral vectors for gene therapy applications.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Your duties as the Upstream Process Development Scientist will be varied however the key duties and responsibilities are as follows:

1. Lead, plan and conduct cell culture experiments using small scale, high throughput bioreactor systems, including use of statistical approaches for process design and specification using tools such as Design of Experiment and Quality by Design (DOE, QbD).

2. Support projects for the technology transfer of upstream processes to commercial manufacturing.

3. Promote and suggest implementation of new methods, technologies and processes to ensure best practice.

4. Work closely with internal and external stakeholders to define project goals and deliverables, in line with planned project objectives

ROLE REQUIREMENTS:

To be successful in your application to this exciting opportunity as the Upstream Process Development Scientist we are looking to identify the following on your profile and past history:

1. Relevant degree and ideally a PhD in Biochemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Biotechnology or similar along with significant experience in Upstream Process Development gained in an industrial setting.

2. Proven industry experience in working with Design of Experiment (DoE) and Quality by Design (QbD) for small scale Bioreactor projects.

3. A working knowledge and practical experience with mammalian cell lines for both protein and viral vector production.
