Development Team Leader – Performance Fuels
This is a very exciting opportunity to work in the Performance Fuels Industry, managing a small team developing cutting edge performance fuels, including those for motor and motor cycle racing, and other high end specialty fuels.
Haltermann Carless is part of a family of brands under the H.C.S Group. We have a global footprint and are renowned for providing leading expertise to the petrochemical and speciality chemical industries. This post is based at our refinery in Harwich, Essex but there are strong links to our teams in Germany and in France.
We are looking for someone with some proven leadership skills and prior experience in working with fuels or with transferable skills gained in a related industry.
There is also a clear research and development element to the job so you will have the opportunity to use your well-honed chemistry skills to develop new products working with the sales team and with our customers.
It’s a demanding job; timescales are often tight and giving our customers the excellent service they have come to rely on means you will need to prioritise the work of the team and plan the work.
So what does a busy day look like? Early liaison with the production and distribution teams at daily meetings, briefing your own team, working out priorities and organizing workloads, monitoring progress on longer term projects, working on your own R & D projects, discussing work in progress with customers, liaising with colleagues across the Group in other companies, working on maintaining quality (ISO 9001) standards, dealing with supplier issues. It could also be hopping on a flight to Hamburg to attend a team meeting or visiting a customer to give some technical advice, clearly no time to be bored!

The successful candidate will have a good chemistry degree, (preferably a masters or PhD), and proven experience in working in an R & D role in a related industry. You will have some experience in leading a team and the ability to inspire and encourage others to look for innovative solutions and to reach their full potential. SAP experience and languages are both desirable but not essential. Help with relocation may be available to the right candidate.
