An exciting opportunity for a Senior Bioinformatician - Analyst to join an emerging Biotechnology company based in the Cambridgeshire area, has become available. As the Senior Bioinformatician - Analyst you will be responsible for constructing analysis pipelines for the analysis of genomes and/or metagenomes. You will further develop the companies nascent analysis pipelines to enable the taxonomic and functional analysis of genomes and metagenomes derived from healthy and disease individuals, produced by the company.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Your duties as the Senior Bioinformatician - Analyst will be varied however the key duties and responsibilities are as follows:

1. Write production quality software and scripts for organising and analysing sequence data.

2. Combine third-party analysis tools, with the company's own in-house tools, to produce an in-depth annotation pipeline for the annotation of metagenomes and genomes.

3. Perform phylogenetic analysis of key marker genes to enable detailed classification of gut microbiome organisms.

4. Perform statistical analysis to identify trends within and across datasets.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS:

To be successful in your application to this exciting opportunity as the Senior Bioinformatician - Analyst we are looking to identify the following on your profile and past history:

1. Relevant PhD in Bioinformatics (or related discipline) or equivalent experience.

2. Proven extensive industry experience in working with biological analysis tools and databases within in a production bioinformatics environment. This will include experience of analysing DNA sequences, ideally genome and/or metagenomes.

3. A working knowledge and practical experience with algorithms/tools in (meta)genome analysis, software development approaches (Agile) and tools (e.g. Git) and a high level of competency in a scripting language, e.g Python or Perl. Experience using R and developing scripts and packages is also desirable.
