We are currently looking for a Senior Analytical Scientist Molecular Biology to join a growing biotech company based in the London area.

As the Senior Analytical Scientist Molecular Biology you provide scientific leadership and support across a range of projects to help develop and validate innovate approaches for cell characterisation which can be used to support cell therapy development.


As the Senior Analytical Scientist Molecular Biology you will work closely with the Lead Analytical Development Scientist and the Head of Analytical Development to ensure the successful delivery of project outputs to schedule and budget. The key duties and responsibilities are as follows:

1. Leading the research carried out by the analytical development scientists assigned to their projects. Ensuring that design, qualification and validation of analytical assays is performed in compliance with appropriate guidelines and/or regulations.

2. Ensuring that analytical research is carried out in accordance with agreed research plans - this will include working with: RT-qPCR, PCR, microarray, NGS, cell culture.

3. Initial drafting of project development and research plans detailing analytical work flow for clients and collaborators. Initial drafting of project reports and protocols in line with assigned project deliverables.

4. Production of protocols and documentation to allow transfer of assays from the analytical team to process development and manufacture .


To be successful in your application to this exciting opportunity as the Senior Analytical Scientist Molecular Biology we are looking to identify the following on your profile and past history:

1. Relevant PhD or MSc, plus additional related experience gained within a cell or gene therapy environment. It is essential that you have gained experience working in a fast paced, high pressure industrial lab.

2. Extensive experience in RT-qPCR including assay design, development and optimisation and PCR quantification using data analysis packages and/or software tools.
Experience of PCR assay validation and the production of validation reports.
Experience of cell characterisation using omics tools.
Experience in large data sets analysis e.g. microarray or next generation sequencing (NGS).
Experience of methods for absolute quantification of targets such as digital PCR.
Experience of low level DNA/RNA detection (i.e. circulating free nucleic acids)
Experience of assay technology transfer into or out-of a research laboratory
Experience of cell culture within a range of cell types
Experience of industry and / or working within a quality environment using a protocol based system.

3. Substantial peer-reviewed publications that demonstrate research productivity and the ability to perform cutting edge research. You will also need to demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills including report writing.
