Employing your specialist knowledge, the successful applicant will be responsible for the NMR evaluation of small molecules at Astex. You will work alongside chromatographers as part of the analytical chemistry team, working closely with medicinal chemistry and protein NMR groups. Through involvement in project teams, you will apply established methods and innovative experiments to aid the drug discovery process.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and oversee the day-to-day running of Bruker 400MHz NMR spectrometer
  • Provide support and training to medicinal chemistry in NMR spectroscopy
  • Structural determination by NMR (e.g. regiochemistry, salt form, conformational analysis)
  • Physicochemical evaluation (e.g. solubility, aggregation, redox behaviour)
  • Quality control

Requirements

  • Experience as an NMR specialist working in industry or academia, preferably within a multidisciplinary team. Applications from recently qualified small molecule NMR PhD students also welcomed
  • Knowledge of drug like molecules and suitable experiments for their evaluation
  • Ability to comprehend multifactorial project issues and identify suitable questions that can be answered by application of cutting edge NMR and other techniques
  • Familiarity with Bruker spectrometers and MNova software would be advantageous
