Contributing in depth knowledge of analytical methods and separation science, the successful applicant will work as part of a small molecule analytical chemistry team directly supporting the medicinal chemistry group. You will join project teams with scientists from other disciplines to ensure the highest quality science at Astex.

Responsibilities

  • Enhancing the analytical chemistry facility by optimising and upgrading existing techniques/ evaluating and implementing new techniques where appropriate
  • Bespoke method development for preparative separations (1mg to 50g scale) and purity analysis
  • Provide support, education and advice for the medicinal chemistry group
  • System maintenance, both directly and through service engineers

Requirements

  • Extensive experience as a technical specialist in analytical chemistry/ separation science preferably with experience of equipment purchase
  • Thorough knowledge of HPLC, UPLC and single quadrupole MS techniques applied to chiral and achiral compounds
  • Experience with SFC, GC and physicochemical property measurements would be an advantage
  • Familiarity with drug-like chemicals and the ability to understand chemical structures
  • An innovative approach to problem solving
  • Effective communication with other analytical experts, medicinal chemists and DMPK scientists
